Grama Niladhari Mrs. Daya Ranjani Wijesinghe of Pamankada East Grama Niladhari Division belong to Thimbirigasyaya Divisional Secretariat Division and Grama Niladhari Mr. Rathnasiri Thalakotuwa of No.486 E, Katuwana Grama Niladhari Division belong to Homagama Divisional Secretariat Division were able to win the first place of the Colombo District Grama Niladhari Office Management Competition 2008.

The second and the third places of this competition were won by Mr. D.S.N. Wijeweera of No.530, Lakshapathiya South Grama Niladhari Division belong to Moratuwa Divisional Secretariat Division and Mrs. Chandani Banduwardhane of No. 565 Batakettara South Grama Niladhari Division belong to Kesbewa Divisional Secretariat Division respectively

Tribute to Grama Niladhari officers of Colombo District

As a concept of Mr. G.A.J. Sylvester, District Secretary, Colombo it has been decided to pay tribute to Grama Niladhari officers of Colombo District who rendered their exceptional services to the public. This ceremony will be held on 23rd January 2008 at Maharagama Youth Services Council Hall under the patronage of Mr. D. Dissanayake, Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration & Home Affairs. Two speeches will also be delivered by Mr. H.M.P.B. Herath, Consultant, Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration and Mr. Sanath Gamage, Consultant (Human Resources Development) with the view of enhancing the attitudes of Grama Niladhari officers in order to deliver qualitative services to the public.

Issuance of Birth, Marriage and Death Certificates within Five Minutes
Computerization process of more than five million Birth, Marriage and Death Certificates of Colombo District had been completed. It is with great pleasure we announce to the general public that a certificate of any of the above kind can be issued to you at your request within five minutes.
Waste Management
Mr. G.A.J. Sylvester, District Secretary, Colombo and Mr. K.C. Niroshan, Assistant Divisional Secretary, Seethawaka participated for a waste management programme representing Sri Lanka. This programme was organized by the Korean International Cooperative Institute. Steps will be taken to initiate a waste management project immediately at Avissawella under the supervision of District Secretary, Colombo based on the knowledge and the experiences obtained therein. The main objective of this project is to make waste a useful resource.

ICTA completes ICT HR Capacity Building Programme with awards ceremony

Marking the successful completion of three projects under the ICT HR Capacity Building Programme the Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) held the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Skills Training Awards Ceremony awards yesterday at the Galadhari Hotel.

The three projects which were aimed at enhancing government sector efficiency saw around two thousand government officials being trained from the Colombo District Secretariat, 13 Divisional Secretariats, Registration of Person’s Department (RPD), the Registrar General’s Department, Laksala, the Pensions Department and the Ministry of Agricultural Development and Agrarian Services. About 88 percent passed from Laksala and 94 percent passed from the RPD.

The three modules in the programme comprised of ICT Awareness, ICT Foundation and ICT Certification. Those completing the foundation and certification modules were able to secure internationally recognised qualifications such as eCitizen and the International Computer Driving License (ICDL). The objective of the programme was to make the public sector more competent in computer skills so as to engage in eServices such as eForeign Employment, ePensions and eDivisional Secretariat.

Speaking at the awards ceremony Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister Karu Jayasuriya said that the government has decided to introduce a committee to promote Human Resource (HR) Development in the country. “Technology is a vital aspect to get ahead in one’s career” said Minister Jayasuriya added.

ICTA Programme Director Wasantha Deshapriya noted in his speech that the Sri Lankan community should recognize their efforts and their keenness in this regard. The ICTA also extended its gratitude to Sanath Gamage and MMBL Cyber Skills.
